On September 16, 2002 the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that "about a hundred people... gathered Sunday at the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis... for an interfaith prayer service to honor the Sept. 11 victims and express religious solidarity against terrorism. While St. Louis-area Muslims say they have generally been treated well, several people who attended the service expressed dismay at what they say is a growing backlash against Islamic communities across the country. According to a USA Today-CNN-Gallup Poll this month, 44 percent of the 1,003 adults surveyed said they have less trust in Arabs living in this country than they did before the attacks. Soon after the hijackings were carried out by 19 Muslim men of Arabic descent, 35 percent of those polled said they were less trustful of Arabs in the United States."
