The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has welcomed the participation of priests, pastors and imams to the search for the elusive peace in Mindanao, saying they can help a lot in prescribing the best solution to the conflict in the region.

Sheikh Muhammad Muntassir, chairman of the MILF committee on da’wah (Islamic call), said in its Web site that priests, pastors and imams are apolitical personalities, who have direct person-to-person contact with people of various orientations and groups who join congregational prayers in churches and mosques.

He, however, cautioned them not to be drawn-in to the group recently organized by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) or their efforts would be tainted with questionable motives.

“If you want to stay neutral and effective, stay away from this government-sponsored group,” he stressed.

The AFP recently had called for a meeting in Manila for priests, pastors and imams for the purpose of coming up with a curriculum of action that included, among other matters, peace-campaign and peace-building as way of solving the rebellion in Mindanao.
