On January 14, 2005 the Detroit Free Press reported, "a middle school history teacher in a heavily Arab Detroit suburb has been transferred for telling students that Bedouin Arabs used the Qur'an as toilet paper. The Woodworth Middle School teacher had been under paid suspension since last month as school officials investigated and considered how to discipline him, said Dearborn schools Superintendent John Artis. The teacher, whose name was not released, was transferred on Wednesday after his suspension ended. The name of the school was also not disclosed, the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News said. The teacher made the statement to his sixth-grade students Dec. 9."
