Amer gave an invocation at the State of California Democratic Convention at the Sacramento Convention Center... Dr. Amer is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sacramento Area League of Associated Muslims (SALAM), the President of the Council of Sacramento Valley Islamic Organizations, and a Professor Emeritus at the California State University, Sacramento... [He stated,] one of the strengths of the Democratic Party in our State is its diverse caucuses. I am happy to see an Arab American caucus among you. Diversity is the secret of God's creation. It is His test to humanity to see whether or not we can accept and work with each other as brothers and sisters, coming from the same human origin. All religions promote such acceptance, even if some of their followers may feel their way is the only way."
