On July 9, 2005 AsiaNet reported, "In the wake of the London bombings, representatives of the Islamic Council of Victoria, Young Muslims of Australia, the Australasian Union of Jewish Students and Young Christian Workers have organised an interfaith vigil in Federation Square, Melbourne. The gathering will be held on Sunday 10 July 2005 between 4-5 pm. ICV President Malcolm Thomas said: 'This gathering is intended to show that people of diverse faiths are united in friendship and cooperation, in the face of events that attempt to divide us.' Many of the organisers had just returned from the 2nd annual Jewish-Christian- Muslim Conference of Australia, and were shocked to learn of the events in London which threatened friendships both new and old. Muslims, Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Baha`is, Hindus and Quakers have confirmed their attendance. The event has been endorsed in churches, synagogues and mosques around Victoria."
