On May 23, 2005 New California Media reported, "Gita enthusiast Ramananda Prasad has reason to be happy. His International Gita Society recently received a letter from McDonald's, the Oakbrook, Ill.-based fast food giant, saying that the society will be one of 24 recipients of the $10 million settlement the company agreed upon after a class action lawsuit accused McDonald's of deliberately misleading Hindu and vegetarian consumers about its french fries which contained a beef additive.

'We are such a small organization, and nobody supports us, the temples are busy with their own activities,' Prasad told India-West as he reflected happily on the coming financial windfall.

Prasad founded the organization in 1984 in Fremont, Calif., and has since pretty much single-handedly tried to promote the message of the Bhagavad Gita, a compendium of advice offered by Lord Krishna to Arjun during the war in Kurukshetra, part of the epic Mahabharata.

Prasad was reluctant to talk about exactly how much the Gita Society will receive, but said that it is probably at the lower end in terms of the amount of money."
