On May 25, 2002 The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that "the U.S. military is probably one of the most colorblind, equal opportunity employers in the country. Therefore, Marines come in all colors, both sexes, most religions and with connections to nearly every country around the globe. The Marines are so proud of their diversity, The Corps set aside a special day to celebrate it, and the public is invited... 'We recognize the history of all Americans that fill the melting pot,' said Chuck Daniel, of the [Camp Pendelton, CA] base's human resources department and one of the organizers of the event... There will be a lot to do and learn at the event, he said. About 40 to 60 informational booths representing a variety of ethnicities will... teach people about the different cultures around the world."
