Malaysia Hindu Sangam expresses its shock on the slaughter of cows in the parliament – this, in our opinion, is offensive to Hindus, Buddhists and others who believe that animals should not be harmed. Parliament is our legislative chamber. It is where our leaders and our representatives are meant to protect and promote our interests. It is not a place for "kenduris" and for the "slaughtering of animals". If Parliamentarians want to have a dinner to celebrate one of their own, they should spend their own money (and not taxpayers), and rent a hall or hotel and have the dinner there.

There is also the question of legality. Are there rules to regulate where, and how, animals can be slaughtered for food? Does this mean anyone can slaughter animals?

We appeal to the Prime Minister to retain the Parliament as our Legislative Chamber and not a place for luncheon or dinner parties.
