On June 21, 2002 The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the opening of the Mall of America's "new meditation room. Opened in late February, the 400-square-foot space is designed for use by employees of any faith, or those just wanting a quiet place... The Mall Area Religious Council [in Minnesota] advised management in setting up the sparsely furnished room for multifaith use. The space includes two foot-washing stalls, shelves for shoes and prayer rugs, and a painted compass on one wall, which assist Muslims in their daily prayers... MARC, a nonprofit, volunteer organization that seeks to create an interfaith spiritual presence at the mall, donated a Golden Rule poster, similar to one hanging in the prayer room of the United Nations. The poster displays 13 religions' interpretations of the 'Golden Rule.'"
