A traditional sweat lodge sits in a clearing in the forest. Quiet and dark, a place for contemplation and prayer, where teachers and elders hold sacred ceremonies and young people growing up in the city learn about their rich native heritage.

It's where young and old come to understand who they are and where they're going.

It's where healing begins.

"Keeping the Circle Strong is where magic happens," said Steve Teekens, manager of youth programs at Native Child and Families Services of Toronto Keeping the Circle Strong Camp, one of the largest programs reaching out to aboriginal young people.

Established 15 years ago, the camp helps youth reclaim their native roots, language and rich culture.
