On November 5, 2001, The Appeal-Democrat reported that "California Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante brought a message of peace, unity and understanding to Yuba City...during a special visit to the Sikh temple...Bustemante's visit and the Sikh parade both marked the second day of celebrations to honor the gift of the Sikh holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib...Bustamante said that people must stop stereotyping each other because of their ethnicity, and said human ignorance is responsible for many misunderstandings."
