On July 3, 2003 The Register Herald reported that "Nasir Mahmood has teamed up with the Pine Plains Council of Churches [NY] to hold seminars on Muslim awareness. The most recent seminar was held on June 12 at St. Anthony's Church in Pine Plains. Many know Mahmood as their pharmacist in Pine Plains, but not as a spokesman on the Islamic faith... Since the attacks on the World Trade Center, Mahmood has thought about how others perceive the Islamic faith... He wants everyone to know that a faith can not be blamed for a few individuals' actions... Rev. Michael Shafer of The Church of Regeneration, the Epsicopal church in town, helped to organize the informal seminar."
