They were led, blindfolded and in ritual robes and sneakers, through the darkness.

When their eyes were uncovered they stood in a room lit by a single candle at the center.

Kindling smaller candles from that flame, each candle was passed around until the group formed a blazing circle of light.

"Go in peace and carry this light with you throughout the year," came the voice of the minister, whose silk shawl wrapped a fire-breathing dragon from one massive shoulder to the other.

Using the symbols of darkness and light, area Pagans ushered in the spring festival Imbolc this weekend.

"This is the time the Earth is starting to wake up," said Chris Clement, minister of Summerland Grove.

The Pagan church without a home was started 14 years ago.

Imbolc, pronounced Im-bolk, was celebrated Saturday at Neshoba Unitarian Universalist Church in Cordova.
