On Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m., the Lexington Interfaith Clergy Association (LICA) will hold an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 55 Coolidge Ave. in Lexington. The LICA is making a concerted effort to bring the community together this year in light of difficult economic times. Donations will benefit the Lexington Food Pantry; canned and dry food donations are welcome.
LICA is comprised of clergy and religious leaders from most of the faith communities in the Lexington area, including Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam and Unitarian Universalism. The group’s main focus is promoting fellowship, interfaith cooperation and tolerance among the religious leaders in the community. LICA has led the fight against hate groups and also takes an active role in helping those in need.
“The annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service is one of our most significant events, an opportunity for charity and bonding,” said Rabbi David Lerner of Temple Emunah, co-president of the LICA. “Interfaith services in my youth opened my eyes to the beauty of Christian prayer and the inclusive God-language of an interfaith service where God could be referred to in ways that make no religious group uncomfortable.”
