On August 25, 2003 The Salt Lake Tribune reported on the 23rd anniversary celebration of Wat Dhammagunaram Buddhist Temple in Layton, UT: "During the celebration, marked by many of the monks chanting in Pali, which like Latin is an ancient ecclesiastical language, the monks were presented clothing, a clock representing the time since the temple's founding and small gifts of money that they could use for themselves or donate to the temple... Devotees, who in the early 1980s were meeting in private homes in the Ogden area, organized Wat Dhammagunaram, a Thai Buddhist temple. Many were the Southeast Asian-born spouses of U.S. military personnel who served with a tactical fighter wing that at one time was stationed in Thailand but later relocated to Hill Air Force Base. In 1994, the Temple opened its doors at its present location in a refurbished Baptist Church. The temple is now the home to 10 Buddhist monks whose orange robes are a frequent sight on Layton streets."
