On May 4, 2001, The Houston Chronicle reported that "Vinson & Elkins, the Houston law firm, came up with a two-track holiday program. It gives the eight basics that include New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. But it also gives employees a list of holidays and allows them to choose two. The choices include the Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese New Year, Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, the first day of Ramadan and the first day of Kwanzaa...The firm really wanted to make a statement that it celebrates its diversity."
