On May 29, 2005 BBC News reported, "A Hindu temple, said to be the largest outside South East Asia, has held its first religious ceremony. The London Sri Murugan Temple, in Manor Park, east London, welcomed its first devotees at 0600 BST on Sunday. It has taken almost five years to complete with money raised entirely by those who will worship there. The temple, which is expected to attract hundreds of followers daily, has been built from granite and marble carved in and imported from India."
