On September 4, 2005 Agence France-Presse reported, "Jordan's King Abdullah II will meet Pope Benedict XVI on a visit to the Vatican next week for talks on promoting inter-faith ties. The exact date of the visit was not revealed but his stop in the Vatican will precede a trip to New York to attend the September 14-16 summit on United Nations reform ahead of the UN General Assembly. 'Inter-faith dialogue and Islamic tolerance as well as the situation in the Middle East will be at the center of talks between King Abdullah and the pontiff,' one official told AFP on Sunday. In July, the Jordanian monarch hosted an international conference to help improve the image of Islam."
