Afghan President Hamid Karzai pleaded with Muslims to unite against those who carry out suicide attacks under the cover of Islam.
Speaking to about 2,000 congregants gathered at a Kabul mosque to mark the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad on Ashura (Moharram 10th 61 A.H./680 C.E.), Karzai said Muslims should unite to safeguard their own religion.
"Our duty, the duty of Islamic nations and particularly the people of this region, is that we must join hands against those tyrants who, by killing themselves, kill ... Muslims under the cover and the name of Islam," AFP quoted him as saying.
