On June 22, 2005 Reuters reported, "Jordan’s King Abdullah II, following in the footsteps of his late father, was Tuesday handed the 2005 Tolerance Award from the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, a Jewish human rights group. Past recipients of the award include the late Pope John Paul II, the Dalai Lama and former Czech president Vaclav Havel. King Abdullah and his father, King Hussein, however, are the only Muslim leaders to have been honored by the Los Angeles-based centre, in recognition of their efforts to push forward the Arab-Israeli peace process."
