On August 15, 2003 the Dallas Morning News reported that "the opinions of 30 Dallas-area Jewish women will help a New York-based national organization set its priorities for the next decade... Ma'yan ('wellspring' in Hebrew), headquartered in the Manhattan Jewish Community Center, was founded 10 years ago "as a catalyst for change in the Jewish community... to create an environment more inclusive of and responsive to women, their needs and their experiences...' Ruth Silverman of the Ma'yan staff and research consultant Tamara Cohen recently conducted two focus groups locally. For three hours, participants discussed aspects of feminism, Jewish texts and education, barriers to women's full inclusion in religious life and communal leadership, volunteerism, and charity-giving priorities. They also defined problems to be addressed, and the changes and resources needed to do so."
