On May 16, 2005 the Detroit Free Press reported, "in a world of terror and war, the Jain's staunch belief in ahimsa -- the Sanskrit word for nonviolence -- may seem out of place. But it has sustained Jains for thousands of years in India, and now metro Detroit. On Sunday, Choksi and hundreds of others marked the 30th anniversary of the Jain Society of Greater Detroit at their temple along 12 Mile in Farmington Hills... As Choksi spoke Sunday, Jains from across Michigan entered the main foyer of the temple and silently said prayers before a row of marble images of Jain saints."
