On August 12, 2006 an Islamic Society of North America Press Release reported, "The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) reiterates its consistent position of condemning any act of terror committed by or against any individual, group or state. ISNA appreciates the efforts of all those Muslims and law enforcement agencies who helped prevent this potential tragedy. It also appreciates the initiatives of various government agencies who expressed their readiness to ensure the safety and civil rights of American Muslims and their institutions in the wake of these later unfortunate developments. ISNA also expresses its grave concern about the President’s use of the term 'Islamic fascists', which, like similar terms as 'Islamic terrorism' gives the false impression that there might be any connection between such aberrations and Islam."
