On July 28, 2003 The Boston Globe reported that "a fire early yesterday at a mosque in Quincy is under investigation by state and local authorities, but it is not being considered a hate crime, State Fire Marhsal Stephen D. Coan said. The fire, which destroyed a wooden porch in back of the Islamic Center of New England, might have originated in a dumpster on the property, Coan said. There is no determination yet whether the fire was accidental or arson, he added... However, the mosque has been the target of harassment since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and it was a victim of arson in 1990."
