On December 29, 2004 the Indianapolis Star reported, "Ashok Jeyapaul, a Hanover College junior from India, spent most of Tuesday logged on to a computer in his dormitory room or at the college's international student center. Jeyapaul awaited e-mail about his grandparents and other family members, whose hundreds of acres of farmland in India were in the path of Sunday's tsunami. Their homes, however, were further inland, so 'I think they should be fine, God willing,' said Jeyapaul, 21, who split his childhood between Chennai, India, and Kenya...Indiana's college campuses are generally quiet during winter break. But some of the biggest international student populations in the country are here, so a disaster in South Asia can still hit hard, 8,700 miles away."
