On September 9, 2002 the Pacific News Service reported that "a dispute within the ranks of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) has raised tensions in the Arab American community at a particularly sensitive time, reports Arab-American Business magazine... Since Sept. 11, the ADC -- the largest nationwide Arab organization -- has taken the lead in protesting unfair targeting and profiling of Arab Americans and American Muslims. As the anniversary of the terrorist attacks approaches, many in the community feel unity is of utmost importance. But the dismissal of Michael Shehadeh, former western regional director in Los Angeles, has sparked a row among members of the organization."
