On March 15, 2005 The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported, "hundreds of people of faith walked across the grounds of the West Front of the U.S. Capitol Monday enroute to a rally against the fiscal year 2006 budget proposed by the Bush Administration. The president's budget is 'morally misguided and misrepresents the true values of the American people,' said the Rev. Welton Gaddy, president of the Interfaith Alliance, an influential interfaith group, and one of the main speakers at the Capitol rally. The event, sponsored by Gaddy's organization and the National Council of Churches USA, coincided with the Senate and the House beginning floor debate on the budget, with bruising battles expected on several fronts, including proposed $214 billion in cuts in domestic programs. The rally featured speakers from a variety of religious faiths, all of them united in their opposition to the federal spending plans put forth by the president and the Republican majorities in both houses of Congress, especially in food stamps, public housing and Medicaid."
