On January 2, 2005 Central Chronicle reported, "Heads of various religions gathered here today to offer joint prayers for the victims of Tsunami tragedy. Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Zorastrian and Jew leaders took part in an interfaith prayer meeting held at Gandhi Smriti Bhavan and expressed solidarity and empathy with thousands of affected people. The religious heads said people of every religion faced the wrath of nature's fury and it was the duty of all to help people overcome their grief. Holy books were quoted to offer condolences to the departed souls."
