On August 26, 2002 The Times Union reported that "20 peace marchers began a journey from Schenectady County [New York] to New York City on Sunday...    They plan to reach New York Sept. 11 in time for a candlelight vigil seeking a nonviolent resolution to global conflicts...    Representing various religions and nationalities, marchers started near the site of the former Mohawk Mall in Niskayuna and made their way to the Islamic Community Center on Lansing Road early Sunday. They were heading for the Hindu Temple on Albany Shaker Road, then on to the state Capitol [in Albany]...    Today, they plan to visit St. Anthony-on-Hudson Catholic Church in Rensselaer and then on to Troy, stopping at Berith Shalom synagogue, First Presbyterian Church and Masjid Al Hidaya mosque...    The group is affiliated with the Peace Pagoda in Grafton, [New York]...  Since 9/11, the pagoda, located in rural Rensselaer County, and Jun Yasuda, a Buddhist nun affiliated with the pagoda, have been working with several demonstrations and walks calling for peace, including a cross-country march."
