On December 9, 2001, The Gainesville Sun featured the article "Marriage of faiths." The article profiles interfaith families: "In the Kellerman household, the union is not only one of faith, it is also one of cultures." The article notes that the Unitarian father, Ed, and Sikh mother, Sarjit, are raising their son in the Sikh faith. "But the family also observes Diwali, the Hindu festival of light that was observed in November this year, and Sarjit often attends midnight mass on Christmas Eve. ...'We focus on our (religious) similarities and try to mediate the differences by drawing parallels,' said [Ed] Kellerman. 'Guru Nanak and Jesus Christ both had spiritual lives, they were both healers, both mediators.'" The article continues, "The tendency for marriages to be religiously mixed has only become greater in the melting pot that is the United States, said Gerald Murray, who teaches a course on the anthropology of religion at UF [University of Florida]."
