On August 25, 2003 The News-Star (Monroe, LA) reported that "[m]ore than 200 believers from the area's diverse religious groups gathered...in the sanctuary of Monroe's First Presbyterian Church for an interfaith worship service. Those assembled included B'hais, Jews, Jains, Hindus, Sikhs as well as Catholic and Protestant Christians. They expressed their adoration of God in different ways - some with audible amens, some with quiet reflection and some in different languages. But the believers united in praying for the welfare and improvement of Monroe and Ouachita Parish. Northern and Central Louisiana Interfaith, which is comprised of lay people and ministers from about two dozen houses of worship and area educators' groups, sponsored the service. Interfaith is a nonpartisan, interracial group that strives to increase civic involvement. Since the group's inception more than four years ago, its members have periodically organized similar interfaith services."
