Riding the success of their first dinner dialogue event, the Interfaith Council of Spring plans to host more events to help strengthen understanding between faith and cultures in Northwest Houston.
Cynthia Stetzer, a co-chair for the dinner dialogues, said close to 90 residents from the area came together in eight different homes to share the ideas of religions ranging from Muslim, Jewish, Catholic, Protestant and Buddhism.
Moderators were selected from a pool of willing participants and were given a framework to guide conversation using predetermined questions during the dinner.
“I looked at this program like a well-made cake,” Stetzer said. “The host has to put the batter together, make the smooth, tasty and sweet batter that forms the foundation... the moderators...helped the cake keep its shape, and the participants were the icing on the cake. They were the ones that opened up and shared their personal thoughts about faith.”
The Interfaith Council of Spring isn’t an official organization. It isn’t a nonprofit and can’t be found on the Internet. It’s comprised of members of local churches from Spring to Cypress who are looking to discuss faith and what it means in individuals’ lives.
