On February 21, 2003 the Press Republican reported that "built in 1932 by P.J. Murtagh of Plattsburgh, the old-brick and slate-roof [World War I Memorial Chapel] is online to receive overdue attention... In December 2001, City of Plattsburgh Mayor Daniel Stewart appeared before the Interfaith Council of Plattsburgh and Clinton County to lobby for the chapel’s future... The Interfaith Council assembled a committee that included the Rabbi David Steinberg of Temple Beth Israel, the Rev. Gerald Bentley of the First Baptist Church, the Rev. Franklin Blanks of New Jerusalem Baptist Church and Marjorie Mapstone of the First Presbyterian Church... The committee recommended that the chapel remain open to the public, a view that echoes the chapel’s original intent to serve Jewish, Catholic and Protestant communities."
