The interfaith group in Albay led by Bishop Lucilo Quiambao of the Diocese of Legazpi convened for the first time to intensify the campaign on climate change.

The leaders of all religious groups in Albay gathered at the Albay Astrodome yesterday to come up with a common and collective action addressing the challenges and issues brought about by climate change that seriously affect the country’s development, specifically the Bicol region.

Using the scriptures and science discoveries, the first interfaith forum on climate change was attended by the Muslim Multi-Associations in Albay, Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints, Seventh-day Adventists, Evangelical Churches, Iglesia ni Cristo and the Diocese of Legazpi.

The organizers of the event led by Manuel Rangasa, executive director of Center for Initiatives Research and Rose Olarte-Orbita of the Seventh Day Adventists requested The Manila Times to showcase the photographs related to disasters before the participants for a glimpse of the effect of climate change in the countryside.

During the forum, Bishop Lucilo Quiambao, apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Legazpi urged the participants to learn a lesson from Filipino ancestors who pursue the development without harming the environment.

“We should learn from our ancestors who pursue sustainable development without harming our environment.” the prelate said.
