On October 8, 2004 IslamOnline.net reported, "This Spanish city seems to be the most suitable for hosting a conference on interfaith dialogue. Once the historic capital of the western Islamic empire for eight centuries, Cordoba had acted as a melting pot where scholars and scientists of various faiths lived in a peaceful co-existence. The tolerant atmosphere seems to stand a repeat this week, as a number of intellectuals from Europe and Muslim countries have been meeting in the city in an effort to adopt a more effective mechanism for getting the two worlds together. The forum – which began on Tuesday, October 5 – has brought together eminent Muslim scholar Yusuf Al-Qaradawi and Spanish Princess Dona Elena and her husband Jaime de Marichalar, along with a host of other dignitaries. The participants are probing during the four-day event the best ways for finding this common identity between Islam and the West."
