On November 18, 2001, The Chicago Tribune reported "Interfaith meeting seeks closer bond with area Muslims." A unique meeting will be held "at Navy Pier where about 3,000 people of various faiths will meet to talk about their differences and, more important, the things they have in common." It is sponsored by United Power for Action and Justice, a group of churches, synagogues, and community organizations. "The meeting, which involves United Power's member groups and the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago, is not open to the public, but organizers hope it will inspire similar gatherings." The meeting is a response to the backlash that followed the September 11 attacks.
