An interfaith dialogue initiative called on Christians and Muslims to work for the common good on the basis of common interests.
Scholars representing the two religions urged their followers to strengthen understanding and respect of each other and to live together for love and peace.
Ali Juma'a, Egypt's Grand Mufti, said on Thursday Christians and Muslims live together in a global village and they must be engaged in a dialogue to know each other better.
"This dialogue in by no means meant to deceive Christians or impose Islam on them. It is rather meant to find a common ground as religion is a part of solutions to problems and not a part of these problems," he said.
