On March 1, 2003 the Dallas Morning News published an editorial written by Dr. Shirley C. Guthrie, emeritus professor of theology at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga., entitled "In interfaith dialogue, let's listen as well as talk." Dr. Guthrie wrote, "Throughout history, religious differences have often led to war or been used to justify war. In our time, conflict in Israel and the threat of war in the Middle East have made it clear that there will be no peace in the world or in our own country unless Christians, Jews, Muslims and followers of other religious traditions learn to live together in peace. That can happen only when people of different faith communities sit down face-to-face and talk with one another, seek to discover what they have in common, and learn to respect one another despite their differences."
