On January 19, 2005 the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported, "a group of area clergy and college faculty has created the Center for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue. Based at Nazareth College, the center will undertake and sponsor research, provide training seminars and serve as a clearinghouse for information about the local religious community... Perhaps the best-known place for religious scholarship is Harvard University's Pluralism Project, a decade-long research effort. And while interfaith groups are not uncommon, they usually come out of local communities instead of academia, said Thomas Donlin-Smith, chairman of religious studies at Nazareth. The center will be housed in Nazareth's Golisano Academic Center but operate as a separate, nonprofit institution, Shafiq said. It is in the midst of a fundraising drive to build an endowment."
