Religions differ, but everyone's blood is red, and it's all needed by the Central Blood Bank.
So this Sunday -- the day before World Blood Donors Day -- the region's first interfaith blood drive will take place at Heinz Field, in the Great Hall, from 2 to 7 p.m. Organizers are calling it "Sharing Faith, Sharing Life," and promising a "historic, festive, family-friendly event."
Christian, Jewish, Islamic and Hindu groups have joined with civic and medical organizations to offer children's activities, health education booths, food stations and, for those who give blood, free behind-the-scenes tours of Heinz Field. The Hot Matzos musical group will perform. There will even be an interfaith scripture study station.
