On June 24, 2005 The Daily Sentinel reported, "A religious group apologized Thursday to James Dobson for remarks made six weeks earlier that compared him and his Colorado Springs-based ministry to the Gestapo and Taliban. The Interfaith Alliance of Colorado condemned Focus on the Family last month for criticizing Sen. Ken Salazar’s support of the Senate filibuster for judges. Clergy who represent the alliance accused the Christian organization and like-minded groups of pushing an extremist agenda during a May 10 press conference at the state Capitol. 'This, my friends, is the Gestapo,' the Rev. Bill Kirton, a United Methodist minister, told his audience last month. That and similar statements evoked Thursday’s apology from the president of the Interfaith Alliance in Washington, D.C."
