On October 21, 2005 The Interfaith Alliance released the opening remarks for the delegation of interfaith leaders it has sent to Baton Rouge. "This delegation brought together by The Interfaith Alliance differs from most others, if not all others, that have come here. The members of this delegation represent the rich diversity of religions in this nation-the most religiously diverse nation in the world. Hurricane Katrina made a devastating impact on a vast diversity of people. Real solutions for problems caused by that storm, like real healing of the hurts inflicted by that storm, will come from people who represent and appreciate the same kind of diversity. The Interfaith Alliance involves people from over 75 different religious traditions as well as people from no religious tradition who understand and appreciate the power of religion to be a positive and healing force in people's lives individually and in the nation as a whole. Though the members of this delegation represent differences, we share a common vital compassion and an unwavering commitment to facilitating helpful actions. We have come here to look intently and to listen carefully. We care about what has happened here and about all of you-all of us-to whom it happened. We want to know how it is going for you. What are your needs? Are people being served? Are religious sensitivities being respected?"
