On December 9, 2005 The Church of England Newspaper reported, "A proposed Christian-Muslim Forum came under fire this week from liberal faith groups, amid accusations that evangelical Anglicans were using it as an opportunity to target Muslims for proselytism. The Interfaith Alliance, composed of 'progressive' faith groups and leaders, claimed a lack of transparency and wider ecumenical involvement could undermine the trust of the Muslim community in the new body. They also claimed that the fact that steps to create the Christian-Muslim Forum were initiated by the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey... could lead to a crisis of confidence among Muslims. The report cites the well-known London churches, All Souls, Langham Place, and St Helen’s, Bishopsgate, for targeting Muslims and Jews for evangelism. It also claims that 'among the network of advisers to the Christian-Muslim Forum have been a number of leading evangelical members with an unambiguous involvement in the targeted proselytism of the Muslim community.'"
