JOHOR BARU: Devotees of various faiths gathered at an inter-faith ceremony at the Sacred Heart Cathedral here to offer prayers for flood victims on Saturday.
Organised by the Malaysia Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Taoism Johor, hundreds of people joined the simple evening gathering lighting candles and participating in prayers for the victims.
A slideshow of the devastation caused by the floods started the evening’s session and was followed by prayers by representatives of all the various faiths.
As Michael Jackson’s famous Heal The World song was played, a collection from the congregation raised more than RM5,400 within minutes.
During the ceremony, Malaysia Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Taoism Johor vice-president Right Reverend Dr Bishop Paul Tan said it was important to show the nation’s strength and ability to face challenges together during a crisis.
