On October 19, 2003, the Toronto Star reported, "About 100 protesters marched outside the Star building at 1 Yonge St. yesterday in response to a story that they believe defamed a Hindu goddess. The protesters carried placards demanding a front-page apology and denouncing the story...Star ombud Don Sellar, in his column Oct. 11, wrote, 'Apparently, the Star didn't understand the idol would never appear unclothed. Editors need to guard against insensitivity.' He noted several Hindus, when asked, said the picture did not offend them."
