On February 10, 2006 UNI reported, "The Sikh clergy today expressed serious concern on the ban of 'religious symbols' like the Sikh turban in France and directed the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandik Committee (SGPC) to call a all-religion convention on this issue. The ban of 'religious symbols' including the Sikh headgear (turban or patka) by the French government was taken up for serious discussion by the clergy at its meeting held at the Akal Takht here. A resolution was passed in the meeting calling upon the SGPC to summon a meeting of heads/representatives of all religions to discuss the ban imposed by the French government prohibiting children from wearing head-gears including the turban in schools. 'The convention will discuss the ban on secular symbols,' the resolution said."
