Indian Sikh Leader Says Turban Issue Not Resolved in French Schools

On September 17, 2004 Press Trust of India reported, "Contesting claims of French authorities that the turban issue had been resolved, head of a gurudwara in Paris on Friday said Sikh students in the country were still being denied entry in schools for wearing headgear. 'Only small kids, who wear small scarves were allowed admission in government schools but students who wear turban were denied entry to even the school premises' when the new academic session began this month, Kashmir Singh, president of Gurudwara Singh Sahab told PTI over phone from Paris... National Minorities Commission Chairman, who received a letter from the French Ambassador, which said the issue of ban on turbans had been resolved, said 'I have sent copies of the letter to the Foreign Secretary as well as the Sikh community in France for their information... I have no reason to disbelieve the French Ambassador.'"
