On October 25, 2005 NewKerala.com reported, "The Indian Muslim Council (IMC)-USA, an advocacy group seeking to promote pluralism, has called upon President George Bush to attend Diwali celebrations at the White House. IMC-USA is also urging its supporters to call the White House requesting President Bush's presence in the white House at the Diwali fete. He has never attended Diwali celebrations at the White House... Dr Shaik Ubaid, president of IMC-USA... explained, 'Hinduism is a major world religion and the president must respect it as he respects Christianity, Islam and Judaism. In fact the president must respect all religions and I am sure he does.'"
