On June 21, 2003 the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported that "there were 3,827 Asian Indians counted in Mississippi in the 2000 U.S. Census... That number, just 0.1 percent of the state's population, seems low to Seetha Srinivasan, 59, director of the University Press of Mississippi... Srinivasan said many highly skilled and educated Indian immigrants have found success in business and health care in the Magnolia State... Mississippi's Indians work to keep their cultural identity. They worship in Hindu and Sikh temples. They network through India Association of Mississippi, which holds social events for Indians across the state. The association also involves the larger community by sponsoring the dinner and dance 'A Taste of India' each fall."
