Indian American Forum for Political Education to Be Involved in Detained BU Student Controversy

On August 16, 2004 the reported, "News of racial profiling of a Sikh Boston College student, Sundeep Sahni, has galvanized the Indian American Forum for Political Education into action... Vanita Shastri, president of the forum, says forum members first read about the incident in a newspaper. Since then, they have set out plans of action to create awareness of the incident. On the agenda was writing letters to local legislators and politicians, including Gov. Mitt Romney and U.S. Senators John Kerry and Ted Kennedy. As of press time, the forum was trying to contact the Boston branch of the American Civil Liberties Union to see if there were grounds for a legal case... The forum is working on a long-term plan to create a program that will educate law enforcement officers about South Asians."
